Class Description:
In this workshop, Jennifer Wilkin Penick will lead participants through two accessible and engaging projects -- both inspired by the colorful art of Henri Matisse. In one project participants will create hand-cut stencils and use them to make layered monoprints, and in the second they will create colorful collages. Participants will leave with a series of colorful and unique monoprints and collages, with their favorite work matted and ready to frame.
This single-session workshop will familiarize participants with gel plate printing techniques, designing and cutting stencils, and abstract collage.

About JJ
Jennifer Wilkin Penick is a mixed media artist and works from her studio in a renovated 18th-century carriage house in Washington, DC. Penick offers both online and in-person workshops, which she designs to welcome participants of all levels. Teaching during the pandemic gave her insight into the power of art to de-stress in general, and to the wonderful accessibility of collage art in particular. She works to foster a creative and supportive creative community via her mixed media classes. Penick's work has been featured in Contemporary Collage Magazine and Uppercase Magazine. She has taught in the DC area for over a decade and has been an artist-in-residence with Georgetown University Hospital's Lombardi Arts & Humanities Program since 2018.
