Class Description:
This class will be an introduction to Collagraph Plate Making and Printing. Collagraph (or Collography) prints are made by gluing varied materials to a board, creating a type of collage. Materials glued to the plate create highs and lows. The low points keep the ink and produce an image when printed. The plates will be inked with safe wash etching ink. An edition of 5 prints will be pulled on the WPG Studio Press.
Day 1: Participants will cut board plates and glue a variety of materials to create a collage of textures and shapes. Board Plates will be coated with a non-toxic, waterproof polymer and set to dry.
Day 2: Plates will be printed on the WPG Studio press. This 1 st proof will not be inked to show the details of the embossed plate. Collagraph plates have two lives, printed with ink and without ink on paper. Both have wonderful results.
Day 3 and Day 4: Plates will be inked; a variety of color inks will be available and printed on BFK Rives printing paper.
Age group: Young Adults and Adults.
Number of participants: 6
Cost: $240.
Supplies / Fees: Tools and Supplies will be provided; $45 materials fee, paid to the instructor.
