Class Description:
Carve your own design and print it by hand in this satisfying, beginner-friendly workshop! Using Speedy Carve, a soft and flexible rubber block that's easy to work with, you'll transfer a design of your choice onto the block, carve away the negative space with lino cutters, and use a brayer and ink to pull your prints. The forgiving, eraser-like texture of Speedy Carve makes detailed carving accessible even if you've never tried it before — and the results are bold, beautiful, and uniquely yours. You'll leave with several prints, a greeting card or two, and your very own hand-carved block to keep printing with at home.

About Clare:
Clare Winslow is a Maryland-based printmaker whose work explores abstraction, process, and memory through layered, gestural images. She studied fine art at The Catholic University of America and printmaking at the Corcoran College of Art, and her practice centers on experimental screenprinting and monotype techniques that translate beautifully to gel printing. A four-time recipient of the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County’s Artists Scholars Project Grant and a past resident at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She has exhibited widely throughout the Washington, DC region and beyond. Clare teaches at venues around the DC area, sharing approachable, process-based methods that invite students to experiment and discover their own visual language.
