Class Description:

Artists traditionally spend a lot of time drawing the nude human form because it’s the fastest way to develop an understanding of human anatomy. Problematically, a lot more goes into creating artwork about people than just understanding anatomy. This class will be focused on drawing models with clothing; understanding how fabric folds across the human form and how changes in pose, lighting, and clothing change the narrative of the artwork. Clothed figure drawing is generally considered more challenging as clothing obscures the human form but drawing the clothed figure opens artists up to a world of narrative focused art and helps students practice a form of drawing with everyday application.

Bio

William Demaria is a Baltimore based artist who began his career with the study of alla prima and Flemish style portrait painting. While his current art practice has diverged into artwork based in the landscape, lessons he learned from these studies serve as a major source of inspiration for his current artwork.

Demaria finds the process of creating artwork itself to be beautiful and has always been interested in studying the way artwork is made. He believes that every student, no matter their skill level, has an individual voice that should be developed.
