Class Description:
In this hands-on course, you’ll dive into the colorful and creative world of gel plate printing. Using charcoal, acrylic paints, stencils, and special layering techniques, you’ll learn to create. beautiful one of a kind monoprints. The class emphasizes experimentation, creative play, and learning to trust your artistic instincts.
What Students Will Learn:
• Gel plate basics: materials, setup, and safe handling
• How to create layered monoprints using acrylic paint
• Texture-building techniques with natural and found objects
• Using stencils (including organic, abstract, and geometric forms)
• Composition principles for dynamic prints
Course Outline:
Session 1: Exploring backgrounds. Introduction and basics , overview of materials and tools, getting to know the gel plate and acrylic paints, basic print pulling techniques and first monoprints.
Session 2: Creating texture. Using stamps, blocks, string, and other found objects to create dimension.
Session 3: Layering and ghost prints, techniques for layering multiple colors / patterns, and how to create and use ghost prints for subtle effects. Introduction of transparent papers.
Session 4: Using masks and stencils.
Session 5: Charcoal transfers, building “pairs” of prints

This class welcomes beginners, curious creatives, and seasoned artists looking to loosen up, and anyone craving a playful, expressive, tactile art experience. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to explore. Adult Beginner - Adult Intermediate

Cost: $260
Supplies: A $50 supply fee will be paid directly to the instructor covering Gel plates in multiple sizes, acrylic paints, brayers and texture tools, a variety of stencils (including custom laser-cut designs, papers suitable for monoprinting , additional organic and found materials for texture exploration and printing papers.

Bio
About JJ
JJ is a founding member of Great Falls Studios and the Great Falls school of Art, Jennifer has been teaching classes and workshops in metal clay, jewelry making, and mixed media for over 20 years. Known for mixing traditional techniques with modern technology such as laser cutters and digital design, Jennifer presents and teaches specialty workshops at International Conferences including AMCAW (The Alliance for Metal Clay Arts Worldwide). A graduate of the University of Maryland Opera Program with a degree in voice, Jennifer supports a broad range of arts and currently sits on the board of Dance Aspen was a past chair of the McLean Project for the Arts annual gala.
