Introduction To Monoprint

Cost: $100, plus $15 for materials (payable to the instructor)

Course Description:

A monoprint is a form of printmaking in which an image is made from a smooth surface such as glass or plexiglass, coated in printing ink/acrylic. In contrast with other printing techniques, only one final image is made, making the technique closer to drawing or painting than other print processes.

Inspired by abstract expressionists such as Mark Rothko, participants will explore creating prints with absolute freedom to enjoy the process.

Bio:

Sarah S Barzmehri studied fine arts at the renowned art school in Paris, France (Ecole Superior Des Beaux Arts de Paris), and Graphic Design at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). She’s an accomplished artist, educator and curator.

Materials Provided

• Glass plates for printing.

• Acrylic paints (black, white, and various colors).

• Rollers and brayers.

• Paper for printing.

• Drawing tools (pencils, brushes, etc.).

• Palettes and mixing tools.

What to Bring

• Sketchbook or notebook for ideas and notes.

• Any personal tools or materials you wish to incorporate into your prints including fabric, leaves, objects, screens and likewise.

• Protective aprons and comfortable clothing suitable for art-making.
