Class Description:

Grisaille, Verdaccio, Glaze, Impasto, Under Painting and Indirect Painting As impressive as these techniques sound, in reality they all are cheat codes historic painters invented to make painting easier! In this 4-week class, students will learn how to break down paintings into manageable steps and provide them with a basis to develop their abilities as a painter and find inspiration from art history.

 Bio

William Demaria is a Baltimore based artist who has always loved drawing and traditional oil painting. He finds the process of creating artwork itself to be beautiful and has always been interested in studying the way artwork is made. He believes that every student, no matter their skill level, has an individual voice that should be developed. His teaching style is flexible, and the pace of his classes adapts to suite individual students needs

Week 1 Studio safety and Drawing with Paint Week

2 Mixing Color, Different types of white, Color over Under Painting Week

3 Mixing Color Continued, Intro to glaze,

Week 4 Impasto and Finishing touches.

Solvents, Linseed Oil, and cleaning supplies included. Individual brushes, paints, and other personal equipment not included.

• Essential supplies (no need to purchase new paints, brushes, and materials if you already have your own.) Painting Easel: Students will be responsible for their own easel. • Paint: My favorite brand is Gamblin. Utrecht makes wonderful budget paints. Any brand is fine with the exception of Winsor and Newton (terrible value) and Blick Studio (terrible in general). • Brushes: I recommend picking up a variety of brush shapes and textures that will give you a lot of room to experiment. I like brushes with long handles.
