Class Description:
A lot goes wrong while printing editions. While the top professional shops like to pretend that their work is always perfect, the reality is that the printers who work at those shops are really good at responding to problems in prints and fixing them.
In this class, work with William Demaria, a former printer at Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE), and learn all the trade secrets necessary to bring your editions to a professional level.
Bio
William Demaria is an artist based in Baltimore MD who worked at Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) from 2020-2023. He currently runs his own publishing company, Windblown Editions, where he helps artists create and publish intaglio editions.
For classes, a syllabus:
Length of class: 4 Weeks
Week 1: Don’t Trust Plate marks! Tear down with perfectly square edges
Week 2: What scratch? Removing inconsistencies and undesirable scratches from prints
Week 3: Perfect Bevels Without Harmful Solvents
Week 4: Archival Storage
Cost: $160 + $20 materials paid to instructor
Skill level: Intermediate
Required supplies:
Artists are encouraged to bring in their own intaglio or relief printing projects so they can learn and perfect their own artwork. Ideally editions should not be torn down before the class. If artists do not have editions ready to work on, practice prints will be provided for students to work on.
